The research plant with a photovoltaic converter providing optimization of the hydrogen generator electric feeding system

Area of application

The helio-hydrogen plants can be used for creating the hydrogen fuel stations, at the farms, livestock complexes, communication companies, health-improving boarding houses and other objects that require reliable autonomous energy supply. It is possible to use such plants as part of the installations using the sun's energy for smoothing the unevenness between energy generation and consumption by the industrial and communal spheres of the economy.

Brief description

The general research plan foresees studying the electrochemical characteristics of the variable valence electrode materials, selecting and forming the electrode twains with a minimum overvoltage, determining the operating range of the current density changes as well as changes of temperature and current output under the high pressure electrolyser real operation modes, optimizing the electrode twain design, developing the connecting circuits, adjusting operation of the photoelectric converter intended for hydrogen generator energy supply and determining the effective energy modes of hydrogen and oxygen generation.

Expected results

As a result of complex research, the scientific and technical preconditions will be created to practical use the hydrogen energy storage increasing the efficiency of the photovoltaic converter based energy plants due to innovative energy storage systems.

Advantages

The advantage of the proposed hydrogen generation method is the possibility for controlling the plant productivity and thus the consumed power (relatively easy – by controlling the current strength), which is especially important when using the helio - wind energy potential that is inconstant and depends on the climatic factors.

Norwegian Hydrogen Energy Systems Projects (Research Scientist at Institute for Energy Technology, Norwey)

State of development

The electric circuit has been developed and efficiency of photovoltaic converter application for the hydrogen generator power supply has been estimated. The electrode materials with variable valence and minimum overvoltage to be used for the high pressure electrolysis systems have been selected and researched.
