PLASMA-STEAM PROCESSING OF WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS SEWAGE SLUDGE AND OTHER HAZARDOUS WASTE

PROCESSING OF WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS

1 - wet feed materials; 2 - conveyer dryer; 3 - low humidity raw materials; 4 – heat carrier; 5 - gas-tight channel; 6 - steam; 7 - water; 8 - slag; 9 - draught; 10 - plasma torch; 11 - evaporative heat exchanger; 12 - a water seal; 13 - high-temperature lining

Area of applications

Processing of municipal wastewater treatment plants sewage sludge, unsorted solid waste, including those already accumulated in landfills, and persistent organic pollutants.

Brief description

Processing of carbonaceous wastes is grounded on their gasification in the oxygen-rich atmosphere with partial addition of steam-water plasma torch energy.

Expected results

Complete correspondence to the European ecological standards. The product of gasification – so-called synthesis gas СО + Н2 – may be used as an alternative gaseous fuel for energy self-provision equipment and an excess production of energy that promote to commercialization of the technology.

Advantages

Exceptional advantage of plasma technologies is a high thermodynamic parameters of the process. That is why it has no restrictions on the quality of carbonaceous raw materials to be gasified. These advantages allow also to convert even the most hazardous chlorine-containing waste. In the case of sewage sludge processing they provide vitrification (encapsulation in a glassy mass of molten slag) the heavy metals that present significant environmental risks in their processing.

Competitors

Integrated Multifuel Gasification technology (IMG) by Bellwether Ltd.

Project development

The project is developed and basic units of plasma-steam equipment are manufactured for conversion of sewage sludge and other hazardous waste capacity up to 500 kg / hr.
