Analysis of the impact of TC 54's activities on the relevant sector of the economy, natural environment

The goal of TC 54 is to promote timely development and maintenance of quality which meets market requirements, materials testing methods and standards for powder metallurgy of Ukraine, exchange of goods and services by eliminating technical barriers to trade. Bringing the TC 54 work program in line with the needs and trends of business environment and prioritizing developments.

Powder metallurgy (PM) is a branch of metallurgy that belongs to production of metal powders and metal powder products with (or without) the addition of non-metal powders with methods of forming and sintering. The most common types of PM products are powders based on iron, copper, powders of hard alloys and sintered components.

Although the methods of powder metallurgy were used in ancient times, modern powder metallurgy is a relatively young branch of metallurgy and is still developing.

Powder metallurgy materials today are considered important, strategic and universal materials in economics. Powder metallurgy products provided to designers, engineers, manufacturers, legislators and consumers promote economic growth, a higher standard of living and the preservation of the environment, because metal powder materials are 100% suitable for recycling. In terms of energy and materials use, component production on PM technologies is advantageous in comparison with competing technologies, such as forging and casting.

PM demonstrates not only the rapid growth of existing industrial technologies, but also great opportunities for the production of new materials and products with unique and technically important combinations of properties.

Hard alloy products are used due to their high wear resistance. The most important is the use of carbide cutting inserts for machining (turning and milling) blanks from different materials. So, consumers of similar products could be found in different industries.

The main strategy of TC 54 is to continue the work aimed at ensuring all enterprises of powder metallurgy of Ukraine by standards on terminology, testing and materials specification methods.

A way to ensure this is to implement international standards. Constant attention is paid to updating standards and test methods in compliance with the latest technical developments in Ukraine and the world
