Abstract

Composite tool materials based on zirconium dodecaboride modified with titanium or tungsten have been developed and fabricated by arc melting. It has been shown that there is no interaction between the developed material and titanium up to the temperature 1000 °С. Moreover, the abrasive powders prepared from the developed material have higher compressive strength than diamond powders АC6. This indicates the big potential of the new material for tooling of titanium and titanium-based alloys. Interrelation between the fracture toughness of the developed bulk composites and compressive strength of the powders prepared from these materials has been established.
