Abstract

Approximate methods for calculating the effective elastic moduli of microheterogeneous materials, including multiphase ones, are considered. These methods are based on the consecutive and direct use of the analogy between the electrostatic field in dielectrics and field of elastic stresses and strains in solids. Formulas are derived to give, with sufficient accuracy for materials science practices, a quantitative assessment on the dependence of the effective moduli with different structures on the elastic moduli of phase components and their morphology and volume content. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by calculation of the elastic properties of bodies containing flat chink-like defects, in particular, powder compacts.
