Abstract

Based on data on the constitution of solidus surface in the Al–Cr–Fe system over a range of 58–100 at.% Al and on the constitution of its as-cast alloys examined with metallography, X-ray diffraction, and differential thermal and electron microprobe analyses, the liquidus surface projection of this system is constructed for the first time on the concentration triangle and processes that occur during crystallization of its alloys are studied. This has permitted the construction of the Al–Cr–Fe melting diagram over a range of 58–100 at.% Al. Its liquidus surface consists of primary crystallization surfaces of four ternary compounds, eight solid solutions based on binary phases, and a solid solution based on aluminum. There are 14 invariant four-phase equilibria involving a liquid phase (three of which are eutectic, two peritectic, and nine transition equilibria) and 8 invariant three-phase equilibria involving a liquid phase in the system.
