Abstract

The mechanical properties of the intermetallic Nd3Al, obtained by argon arc melting are firstly investigated. It is shown that the investigated intermetallic has a quite high strength (540 MPa) in combination with high, for intermetallic, fracture toughness (7,8 MPa⋅m1/2) and plasticity at elevated temperatures. The sufficient plasticity and low melting point of Nd3Al allows to use it as a plasticizer at manufacture of permanent magnets of Nd—Fe—B by liquid phase sintering.  Full text download
