Abstract

The degree of filling depends on the melt viscosity, which, in its turn, is determined by the polymer melting temperature. It was established that the optimum degree of filling with basalt fibers is 20-30 mass%. To sum up, after reinforcing the polymers under study with 20 mass% basalt fibers (fiber length 5mm), the following properties increase as compared to those of the initial material:
- the tensile stress of polyamide from 70 to 150МPа; polycarbonate from 66 to 108МPа and polystyrene from 46 to 98МPа;
- modulus of elasticity of polyamide from 28 to 83МPа, polycarbonate from 22 to 61МPа, polystyrene from 28 to 84МPа;
- thermostability of polyamide from 66 to 240 оС, polycarbonate from 138 to 140оС, polystyrene from 84 to 105оС.
