Abstract

Using computer simulation, the optimization of a complex-shaped mold filling with feedstock (selection of the injection gate location) on an example of the orifice for argon-arc welding has been carried out with the aim to minimize the most typical defects formation such as sink marks and weld lines. The uniform mold filling and the least number of defects have been established to be reached in the case of injection gate location from the narrow end of the orifice. Examples of the orifices for argon-arc welding and abrasive spraying have been shown on that the mold corners with fillets allow one to reduce stress concentrations.
