Abstract

The process of fullerene С60 dissolution in polymethyl-substituted benzenes is considered as a reaction of intermolecular π-donor—acceptor interaction leading to the formation of charge-transfer complexes of π-type that allows revealing the regularity of dissolution of fullerene С60 in polymethylbenzenes. The π-electron-acceptor ‘effect of —СН3 group in the meta-position’ of the aromatic ring is revealed. The method for calculation of the С60 fullerene solubility in polymethyl-substituted benzenes is developed. As ascertained, the change in the solubility of С60 in polymethylbenzenes at the ‘introduction’ (or ‘breeding’) of the СН3-groups in the benzene nucleus does not depend on the already existing number and arrangement of the СН3-groups in polymethylbenzene. An explanation for the low solubility of fullerene С60 in organic solvents is presented.
