Abstract

The conventional furnace sintering of porous fibrous materials made of 1Kh18N9T corrosion-resistant steel leads to abnormal grain growth resulting in bamboo-like fibers, significantly affecting the mechanical properties of these materials. Spark plasma sintering has been employed to make porous samples of 1Kh18N9Т corrosion-resistant steel fibers. The yield stress of these samples is 1.5 times higher than that of the samples produced by furnace sintering at 1200 ºС for 2 h.
