Abstract

The contact interaction of the hot-pressed ceramic SiC—Al2O3 with a nickel, aluminium and nickel-aluminium alloys has been researched. It has been established that a pure nickel does not moisten ceramics, forming the contact angles equal to 116°. Additions of aluminium in nickel promote spreading of melt on the surface of ceramics, so as an aluminium is a surface-active element. This results in the reduction of contact angles in the system SiC—Al2O3—Ni— Al (θ = 20°). The microstructure of interaction area has been studied and it has been shown that as a result of interaction the new chemical compounds have not been formed, and the contact area is described by the presence of transitional area between the metallic alloy Ni—Al and refractory components SiC—Al2O3. Optimum compositions of metallic binders for composite materials on the base of SiC—Al2O3 have been determined.
