Abstract

Three main areas of powder composite engineering related to the control of porosity, formation of perfect contacts, and optimization of solid-phase structure are discussed. The reasons for effect of pores on the strength of both brittle materials and materials with high fracture toughness are shown. The laws of good contact formation are analyzed taking into account the laws of structure formation and the evolution of boundaries between powders at different production stages. The structural optimization for powder composites is discussed using the problem of grain refinement and formation of nanostructured materials.
