Abstract

A chemical model for the formation of nanoparticles of turbostratic BN powder obtained by carbamide synthesis is proposed. The mechanism is based on the interaction of meta-borate acid O=B—OH with carbamide (NH2)2CO. In the exchange of OH groups to NH2 groups, H2O and CO2 are released. The metaboryl-amide O=B—NH2 formed in such exchange, is studied. It is found that the dehydration of the compound releasing >B—N< radicals promotes the subsequent formation of turbostratic BN.
