Abstract

The densification behavior of nanostructured MgF2 ceramics in the spark-plasma sintering is studied. Nitrate synthesis is employed to produce a fine powder. The high-purity and fine MgF2 powder has 300–500 nm grains and shows high density (~99.8%) and transparency (~ 90%) in the IR range for samples 2.5 mm thick.
