Abstract

The paper shows an approach to studying the mechanism and kinetics whereby a metal melt of specific composition penetrates along the grain boundaries in unstressed metal samples. The melt penetration rate is controlled by processes that occur in the liquid-phase front: dissolution of grain-boundary sections, recrystallization to form solid-solution crystals, and opening of new crack sections under the pressure of growing crystals.
