About determination of plasticity of materials by indentation

Abstract

The results on determination by indentation of plasticity for a number of materials (including brittle and low-ductile in the mechanical test) were presented. It was shown that the plasticity characteristic which is calculated using formula (where HV is the hardness; E is the Young’s modulus and γ is the Poisson ratio) can be used with satisfactory accuracy for all materials. This formula can be used in analytical calculations of plasticity dependence on structural parameters and external factors (temperature, strain rate etc.)
