Abstract

The magnetoabrasive powders obtained by mechanical mixing of abrasives (electrocorundum, silicon and vanadium carbides) and iron powders over surfactants (oleic acid) and gluing organic substances (epoxy resin) have been proposed. The content of surfactants and gluing organic substances does not exceed 8–10%. The dependence of the magnetic properties on abrasive content of the composite powder is investigated. The effect of the type of abrasive on the cutting capability of magnetoabrasive material and on the roughness of the treated surface is determined. The level of roughness (Ra) reached on steel 45 (HRC = 44–46) with use of Fe–50% SiC abrasive is 0.08–0.12 μm.
