Abstract

This paper presents results of studies on high-speed thermal treatment of SiAlON ceramics using spark plasma sintering and sintering in combustion wave. These rapid consolidation techniques permit identifying the temperature ranges that determine the density, microstructure, and phase composition in the multicomponent SiAlON systems. The features of separate phases of the sintering process and the effect of composition and basic properties of raw powders on the microstructure and phase composition of sintered SiAlON ceramics are established.
