Abstract

A physicochemical analysis is used to investigate the constitution of ZrCo-ZrNi alloys for the first time. The equiatomic ZrCo и ZrIr phases are found to form a continuous series of solid solutions at subsolidus temperature and down to the temperature of martensitic transformation onset in ZrIr. The substitution of Co for Ir stabilizes the high-temperature ZrIr phase with a cubic crystal structure of CsCl type. The extrapolation of linear temperature dependence of cobalt content shows that the high-temperature phase is stable at room temperature in the alloy with about 15 at.% Co.
